My first notes of many to you. Cannot wait, October 29th cannot come soon enough. We have so much to share. So, its time for me to start getting my stuff together. My playlists and music collection that is, my cher we have lots of music to hear together...
To start things off, I know a good one that I would like you to hear on that first night back at the house when its just me and you, and we are up together all night (after all, mom is probably going to be tired, and we will need to give her all of the sleep she deserves):
- This is the first song that you will ever hear besides the beat of mom's heart which you heard the day before you arrived at 5330 Laurel. To be honest with you it is the best the song ever created. That's a strong statement, yeah, but you know what, its true. Wanna know why? Its about something you'll discover one day, I don't know when, but you'll know it when you do. Its about having so much love and trust for a person that it transcends anything. Both of you will always have a strong contentious and secure feeling that will never go away, and if you ever doubt it, all you will need to do is to just look at that person and you will be reassured. You will both go through good and bad times in your life, and there is no doubt about that. But, this person will always be by your side during the difficult times and the great times (like when the Saints win the Superbowl)! It's special, and its something you will always need to cherish and always work to protect. But, there is nothing greater in life than that person who really loves you. It's paramount. By the way, as you will probably know by the time that we play it at your wedding, this was your Parents' wedding song.
- On a side note, this song is also special to me. It's more about the cassette tape that it was on. Your dad's grandma Emma lived in Bayou Sale, LA. When I was a little kid, I would often stay at Mom-mom Emmy's trailer overnight. When mom-mom Emmy would go to bed, I would often sneak out of bed, and get curious and check out her tape collection. For some reason, I picked up this tape and played it on her tape deck one night. It struck me, maybe it was his voice, maybe the words, but it was Keith Whitley, and it stuck. He was simple, straight-forward, but always made love and emotion sound comforting. I never forgot that album, and i never forgot that song. It always reminds me of Mom-mom Emmy and the Bayou Sale tranquility.
- PS - For some reason your mom prefers the Allison Krauss version?!? I know. Allison has nothing on the original. And also, "Somebody's Doin Me Right" is pretty good too.
